Post War Fashions

From December 30th, 2022 through to 9th January, 2023 I examined the effects of war on fashion. See from http://www.austbuttonhistory.com/30th-december-2022/ if you wish to revisit this.

I mention this as I stumbled across a 1949 fashion article that touched on the ongoing effects of WW2 on fashion:  “A natural aftermath of war … when men are short (ED: in number not stature!)  women undress to attract them”.

The Daily News (Perth), 8th December 1949 page 17.

This article will be referring to day-wear, as deep necklines for evening wear was shown in 1945, in the first “non-austerity” fashion show in London. (See http://www.austbuttonhistory.com/2nd-january-2023/)

Daily Mercury (Mackay, Qld), 1st January 1949 page 3.

The Sun (Sydney), 20th November 1949 page 47.

Some disagreed with the whole concept …

Sunday Mail (Brisbane), 20th January 1946 page 6.
