Hand-made buttons

The Albury Banner and Wodonga Express, 9th July 1909 page 15. A very wordy description of passmenterie type buttons/ornaments sewn onto garments.

The South Eastern Times (Millicent, SA, 30th April 1915 page 6.

Another article from 1915 suggested grating fresh breadcrumbs and mixing them into a dough with powdered scent, food colouring, white flour and water before shaping into buttons. You were to then inlay small porcelain beads onto the surface of the button, and use hat wire to fashion the shank to be inserted into the button dough. The completed buttons needed to be set aside to dry for 5-7 days.
