An Old Button Tin

Grandmother’s, mother’s, or our very own button box/tin/container. It is were most collectors start; as a child sitting at her mother’s feet whilst she sewed, playing with the contents of the button tin.

Whilst ravaged by time, it was originally a pretty rose patterned tin with a hexagonal shape, which would have been more expensive to make than a rectangular example.

Who were the manufacturers?

William Horsfall Pty Ltd were “tin printers and canister manufacturers” in Coppin St,, Richmond, from 1921 until  around 1969. William Horsfall died on 9th April 1951, aged 66 years.

From the Richmond and Burnley Historical Society Facebook page. Apparently the factory burnt down, and the site is now a park.
