Australia’s Federation Guard (AFG)

Back lined with plastic. No makers mark.

From Wikipedia.

I had this button in my collection, but did not realise its significance.  They are Australia’s first ceremonial unit, raised in 2000 for centennial celebrations from members of the navy, army and airforce. It was originally intended for a two year period, but due to its success in promoting the Australian Defence Forces, was made permanent.  Guard members frequently deploy interstate and overseas to provide ceremonial support for memorials, funerals and gala openings. They welcome all visiting heads of state and government to Australia. As well as ceremonial duties, they are trained to use the M2A2 105mm howitzer and 7.62mm self-loading rifle, and to drive coaches and Unimogs.
