Railways of Australia

Cufflinks and tie pin by Bertram

Railways of Australia was an association of railways operators here and in and Zealand (despite the name) from 1963 until around 1999, when due to the privatisation of most government train operations, it was superceded by the Australiasian Railway Association.

The members included Commonwealth Railways, NSW Government Railways, NZ Railways Department, Queensland Railways, SA Railways, Tasmanian Railways, Victorian Railways and WA Government Railways. The advertising was bold, stirring, and proudly nationalistic!

Am I boring you? There are more … (let me know if you want more of their vintage advertising)

Finally, around 1980 they updated the logo and started advertising in the Australian Women’s Weekly with families and couples enjoying relaxing journeys, great food and no hassles.
