Trochus Shell

This trading card from a 1964 series found in packets of Weet-Bix features the trochus, the natural material from which shell buttons were (and still are) made. See http://www.austbuttonhistory.com/9466/ Trading cards have been a marketing tool since around 1860; initially they were baseball cards found in cigarette or candy packets. Santarium introduced its trading cards in Australia in 1942 to promote their Weet-Bix cereal, later expanding the feature to other cereals. They discontinued the practice in 2012.
