Colonial forces: Part 2
Once again Trove offers up interesting historical information. “The Almanac of Australia and Official Record”, January 1882 had summaries of the colonial forces.
Tasmania
There was a troop of Tasmanian Light Horse, as well as artillery, engineers and infantry.
Victoria
The regiments included the prince of Wales Light Horse, two brigades of artillery, engineers, torpedo and signal corps, infantry including the 1st and 2nd Metropolitan, and Mount Alexander battalions as well as the Ballarat Rifles. There were medical, veterinary and chaplians departments.
Queensland
The Queensland Volunteer Defence Forces included artillery, engineers, infantry, and coast corps.
Western Australia
There was only an officer in charge of Coast Surveys and a naval assistant listed. perhaps further reports had not been submitted.
