Uniform Button
New South Wales Volunteer Rifles, 1860-1870
From the National Museum of Australia, William Percy Faithfull’s military tunic and ‘shako’.

The buttons are those shown on Cossum’s book, page 5, with a QV crown, bugle and letters VR. (Sorry they don’t enlarge well.)
The tunic of the volunteers changed from grey to red during 1869-70, mimicking the British uniforms of the day.
