Beauclaire Buttons from 1950
In 1950 General Plastic donated sample/display boards of buttons to the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences for their plastics collection.
These buttons and buckle have been “pearlised” by spraying on a coating containing “fish scale essence”. “Pearlised” buttons were advertised in the 1950s. Unfortunately, the coating was easily damaged. All the above buttons were also sold in other finishes.
Here are some examples of the above buttons, both pearlised and other finishes, from my collection.
