Established in 1903 as a drapery store, it expanded to become a department store.

In 1987 they took over the  D.I.C. stores, including the old Christchurch Beath’s store. (See the Beath’s entry 13th June). They ceased operating in 2015.

A fire had gutted the Dunedin store in 1959, but it was rebuilt the following year.
