Matthew Flinders Monument, Mornington

Visiting recently on a very blustery, wet and cold day, I had a closer look at the Mathew Flinders statue in the Mornington Park playground. I was amazed at the details. Even his Royal Navy buttons depicting the “fouled anchor” were clearly depicted.

The statue was sculpted by Marc Clark in 1987 for the Bicentennial Celebrations in the following year. Flinders had made a survey from Snapper Point (above which the park is located) on the 29th April, 1802 in the ship Investigator.
