Purely Australian Clothing Company

Victoria Company traded as Purely Australian and Purely Australian Clothing Company in the 1990s-2000s, but is no longer trading. They sold clothing including woollens, T-shirts and fleece jackets and plush toys.

The company from which this retailer grew was established around 1844. It traded in Collins Street from 1878.  From 1892 it was called ‘Hicks, Atkinson & Sons’  (a limited company from 1910-1921, then a propriety limited from 1921 until 1948, when it was made into a public company: Hicks Atkinson Ltd. It  then became Hicks Atkinson Pty Ltd, as a subsidiary of Reid Murray Holdings, from 1958 until 1967 when it was wound up. It has been relocated to Bourke Street in 1960. The Reid Murray Group had collapsed in 1962.
