This photo #L54496, from the National Archives shows  “Two Port hostesses in front of new Melbourne Harbour Trust Shipping Control C” wearing a top with 8 metallic buttons. Perhaps they were this button?

The role of Port hostesses started in Fremantle in the early 1960s. The hostesses would welcome and help visitors and crew arriving at the ports.
