More New Finds

Embassy and Woolworths.

These rival variety stores both used to stock own branded buttons,  supplied by General Plastics, then by G. Herring sometime in the early 1960s.

General Plastics cards did not have ‘matching thread’. This was a G.Herring (Beutron) marketing feature. The map of Australia was used until 1971.

Post 1971.

These Woolworths cards date from 1972 onwards. They deleted the ‘added thread’ feature with this change of styling, whereas Embassy kept the thread on the cards until they dropped the Embassy brand around 1993.

Another Woolworth brand was Grandway. Although this brand dated from 1969, the pricing on the cards of buttons indicates they date from the 1980s.
