Some items from hubby’s grandmother’s sewing tin:

Bias Binding

Bias binding a narrow strip of cloth cut on the bias, folded once or twice, for finishing and decorating clothing. I was not aware that Berlei made items other than corsets, brassieres and undergarments. They started out as the Unique Corsets Ltd in 1912; the directors, Fred and Arthur Burley, lending their name to the brand in about 1918.

Button hole twist.

G. J. Coles home brand, “Embassy”. “Mercerised” means the cotton was treated under tension with an alkali to make it shiny and stronger.

JP Coats and Kettle brands have the same chain circle trademark. The company dates from circa 1830 in Paisley, UK. For a time line, see https://www.coats.com/en/about/our-heritage

Belding Paul Corticelli Limited  Canadian firm: 1911-1920.

The only example with a plastic reel.

Top and bottom labels. No 40. was a general usage weight; no. 50 was a finer thread. C. 1905-30.  The Skipton indicated was in Britain, not Victoria, Australia.
