North Western Victorian Regiment. 8/7th Infantry Battalion.
A North Western Battalion of the Victorian Volunteer Rifles began parading as early as 1864, comprising men from Bendigo, Kyneton, Castlemaine and Maldon Volunteer Rifle regiments. These early regiments are the roots of the 8/7th Battalion.
Post WW2 the 8th (from the Ballarat and Ararat areas) and the 7th (from the North Western and Murray areas) were merged to form the 8/7th Battalion, the North Western Regiment. Together with the 5/6th Battalion they formed the Royal Victorian Regiment of the Australian Army.
