Geese are distantly related to ducks and swans. True geese come from the family Anatidae, and consist of grey geese and white geese. (Some birds with the word goose in their names are not true geese.) Roast goose has been eaten at celebrations going back to ancient times. It became a popular meat for Christmas celebrations from the medieval through to the Victorian times.
