My true love sent to me, five golden rings …

This line may be another error of repetition. It may have started out as five goldspinks (European Goldfinches). Alternatively, this may refer to ring-necked pheasants. As song birds (and pheasants) were eaten, this would be in keeping with the previous lines of the song of the Twelve Days of Christmas.
