Launceston had its own police force from 1858 until 1898.

Dr Ernest J Crouch 1847-1932

# SD_ILS:652755 Dr E. J. Crouch Southern Tasmanian Volunteer Artillery.

Dr Crouch came to Melbourne in 1875 then moved to  Hobart, where he remained until his death in 1932 at the age of 85 years. He was an officer of the Southern Tasmanian Volunteer Artillery and became the Brigade  surgeon of the Southern Tasmanian Defence Force.
