Freak Buttons

Definition of freak from Cambridge Dictionary is a thing, person, animal, or event that is extremely unusual or unlikely, and not like any other of  its type, and freakish means very unusual or unexpected, especially in an unpleasant or strange way. Therefore I guess that the new fashions and buttons described below were not to the writer’s taste! Still one person’s freakish is another person’s quaint.

The Maitland Daily Mercury (NSW), 27th December 1934 page 3.

“How different the jumper looked (finished with appropriate buttons) from cheap, ready made garments with their often unsuitable freakish buttons of glass, bone, etc.”  (Examiner, Launceston, 3rd May 1939 page 4.)
